The New Nexus 7 officially announced by Google, hits retail July 31
Asus and Google are at it again as the new Nexus 7 comes in to look and feel like the younger brother of the Nexus 10.
The Nexus 7 size is 7 Inch.
The horizontal logo placement and speaker alignment on the middle of the narrow sides of the tablet seem to suggest that the preferred holding position for this tablet will be in landscape, which is the opposite of the current Nexus 7.
THE NEXUS 7 PRICE
The original Nexus 7 shook up the tablet landscape by offering a powerful piece of hardware with a mid-range display for only $200.
For $229 you can get the WiFi only 16GB model, with options for a 32GB model at $269 and an LTE supported model for $349. The LTE model is unlocked, and supports AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon Wireless on the same device. It’s unclear which versions will be available on shelves in retail stores outside of the 16GB WiFi model, but those models will be available to purchase from stores on July 31.
THE NEXUS 7 FEATURESThe 2013 Nexus 7 is an upgrade in every way from the original tablet. The Tegra 3 processor has been replaced with a Snapdragon S4 processor clocked at 1.5GHz, with 2GB of RAM and your choice of 16GB or 32GB of storage. There’s a 1.2MP camera in the front and a 5MP camera in the back. You won’t be taking amazing photos with this machine, but it will superbly handle video chat, just like the original was designed to. The screen has been updated to a 1920×1200 resolution display, which will be able to show off 30% better color depth than the original. The new Nexus 7 will support Miracast, SlimPort, wireless charging, and NFC, all while being 2mm thinner and almost one ounce lighter than the original.
The purpose of the 2013 Nexus 7, outside of updating the hardware line, is to showcase Android 4.3. We’ve seen the new version of Android leaked in several places already, including the Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play edition that we tested on. Google’s focus in Android 4.3 has been on internal fixes for things like WiFi and Bluetooth to make them more efficient, and enable features — like 4.0 Low Energy.
